Week 7

In this weeks lesson we decided to polish a part of choreography we created in our own time. We went over the counts, the dynamics and the spacing in order to make in clean. We also decided to brain storm more ideas on how we will enter the stage in a captivating way. We then translated these thoughts into movements. We decided that the beginning of the piece should start with Lucy creepily stood still in the middle of the space for a little while until me , Rosabella and Hannah slowly walk on stage with our eyeline always at the front. Right as we start walking into a formation Storm bursts on stage with a sprint and then we start the movement.

We also decided on a beginning piece of music in our own time. We decided on using ‘prodigy’ by Nathan Laniar as it had the contrast of dynamics within it similar to the movement we created. The music is also very sinister and ominous which goes well with our stimulus. We found that the beginning of this piece of music is hard to count therefore we had to practise many times in order to get the timing correct as well as stay In time with one another.

Once we had cleaned the beginning piece of movement we began to add more.  We made sure to refer back to the starting point of the picture of the hallway to make sure we didn’t lose track of the piece. We worked together to add around 30 seconds of movement. We also used the music to encourage us to create movement by letting it play as we messed around with different steps and formations. After this we decided to add some choreographic devices in order to make the movement very captivating and unpredictable which links back to the theme of a mental asylum.

Then each group had to perform their piece for the class. I found it interesting to hear the feedback from the other groups. I was congratulated on my improvement on my facial expressions which I am very pleased about however it is still a work in progress for me. We were also praised on how musical the piece was due to use having a movement on every beat and replicating the dynamics in the movement to the dynamics in the music. We were given the task to work on cleaning the last section of the choreography. I agree that this part was messy due to just learning it before we performed it to the class.

Overall, I am incredibly pleased with the progress of my group. I believe we are working very well together and are making progress very quickly. I am extremely excited to see the finishing product of our choreography.

  1. Well done Sadie, I could definitely see an improvement in your performance and you have structured this blog well to show the choreographic process you have taken and then the feedback that you received in this session. What is your group planning to work on next to advance your choreography?

    1. Thankyou. In our next choreography session our aim is to choreograph much more movement. We are struggling with the time management part of the creation of movement. We now need to push in order to get it finished in time for assessments.

  2. I can really see the development of your choreography progressing really well. In the blog you mention on cleaning the beginning before adding more, is this a process you will use throughout developing your choreography?
I also love your use of opinion in your blog it gives the reader a strong idea of how you are finding the lessons and the journey.

    1. Thank you. I believe that we need to make sure each section is clean before we add more otherwise the whole piece will become messy. I do plan on using this throughout the whole creation of the piece.

    1. I think working with music has helped us really be able to get in character. It also helped to further portray the eerie feeling we are aiming for. It also allowed us to add more dynamics to the movement due to there being slight changes in pace and pitch in the music.

    2. We are also trying to use every beat of the music to make the movement very musical.
