Evaluative blog
In this blog I will be discussing the progression me, and my
group have made over the term. I will also be showing the challenges we faced
and how we overcame them.
Overall, I think my group has made a lot of progress and has
created a very good piece of choreography. However, along the way we have faced
a few challenges. A main challenge we faced was time management. Due to having
a short amount of time to create the 10-minute piece it was already a struggle
to choreograph a well thought out and clean piece. However, our group often got
stuck on ideas or processes which took up some of our well needed lesson time.
To combat this, we decided to make a plan of what we were going to do in each
lesson and how we were going to do it. For example, we set a plan to
choreograph the beginning section by using the dice method. This was an
effective way to keep track of time. Another challenge we faced was losing
track of our stimulus. Leading on from the last challenge, due to the small amount
of time we had we often rushed to create movement and settled with steps that
just fit with the previous movement. However, we quickly realised that these
sections did not portray the wanted feeling to the audience therefore we
changed these to fit in with the idea of the piece. We also reflected on
previous lessons and used some of those processes to create movement. For
example, used the method where you pick a word formulated by looking at the
picture which is our stimulus and using it to create a small gesture.
I do believe that a lot of our original ideas changed as we
began to choreograph the piece. For example, our original idea of the beginning
of us slowly coming onto stage changed and we ended up all beginning on stage with
a strong and intense beginning. The idea of us slowly coming onto stage was
used later on in the dance. This was because we really wanted to make an impact
on the audience as soon as we entered the stage. Through the whole of the
choreographing process we wanted the audience to feel the eerie atmosphere we aimed
to achieve. We wanted them to feel creeped out by us but also a sense of sympathy
when we perform a slower and more controlled piece of movement to show the
element of being trapped. I feel like my group achieved this as from the peer
feedback we were informed that some of them had got goose bumps from the piece.
This is an incredibly happy feeling that we have achieved a goal we aimed for. All
throughout the process my personal goal has to work on my facial expression. I
have been told I am improving on these therefore I hope that on the day I show
the intensity of the dance on my face like my peers are.
Overall, I am very pleased with what our group has achieved.
We have faced some challenges which we have overcome and we are still working
to improve out piece so that it can reach its full potential however I believe
we have achieved the goals we aimed for in the beginning.
Well done Sadie, I can clearly see how you and your group worked together to overcome the challenges that you faced throughout the creative process. What are some of the successful elements of your group dynamics and how you worked together?
ReplyDeleteThankyou, as a whole i think my group worked really well together. We always found compromises on our ideas and all gave our input in the choreography. We evenly spread out the solo parts within the piece to ensure everyone had equal opportunities.
DeleteThis evaluation blog is really clear and well presented, well done Sadie. You mentioned you faced some challenges what were the challenges and did you over come these as a group?
ReplyDeleteThankyou. We did overcome our challenges. A big challenge we faced was time management and we overcame that hurdle by creating a plan for each lesson.
DeleteThis was very interesting to read how you faced and tackled hurdles together as a group. After creating more of a vivid work plan for each lesson, did the productivity of class time increase significantly? Also, when using choreographic methods, was it a very effective way to create movement material for you and your group? Did it make creating a lot easier?
ReplyDeleteI found that after the plans were made the productivity in class was increased a large amount which allowed us to make much more progress. Yes. I found using the methods were effective. I found they helped us stick to our stimulus and they were quicker than trying to create movement on the spot.
