week 3
In this lesson we started off by sorting ourselves into our
household groups. We organised ourselves into a line facing the back. Miss Evans
gave the person at the front of the line a word which sparked movement. 8
counts had to be created. The other two or three people in the group faced
towards the back of the room so they could not see the person creating the
movement. Once the first person had done, they showed the second person the
movement just once whilst the second person tried to remember the movement. They
then performed the movement to the next person. Once the movement had got to
the end of the line , the creator of the phrase and the last person performed
the 8 counts at the same time in order to see what had changed .This repeated
until we had 4 motifs all together. However, this meant we had 8 pieces of movement
as the piece was slightly different once it got to the end of the line. We then
had to create a phrase with all 8 pieces within them in any order. I liked this
technique as it allowed us to use each person’s choreography within the piece.
I found it a fun task therefore I would use it in the future when I am
choreographing a group piece. What we created can be seen in the video below.
You have described the session really clearly and it is good that you found the collaborative nature of this task to be effective for you as this will be useful for your future group choreography. How did you develop the short motifs into a longer phrase - did you use any choreographic devices or forms of inspiration to help you?
ReplyDeleteWe created a longer phrase by adding each short set of movements together. We added the use of canon and counterpoint in order to make the phrase more interesting. We also added many different formations.
DeleteI really liked reading your blog and the way you have explained this task. I also really liked the fact you gave your own opinion on the task. How did you find fitting the original and adapted motifs together? What were the four words used to create this movement?
ReplyDeleteA few of the words we used were stuck and floating. I found the fitting of the pieces hard at first but then as we eased into the task it became easier. We used a few extra movements between each phrase in order to smoothly flow one phrase to another.

ReplyDeleteWhat made this choreographic method so effective for you compared the previous ones in week 1 and 2? Was it because of its more structured step by step layout?
Thankyou. Yes, i do believe it was because the task was more structured therefore it was much easier to stick with the task and not start losing track of the main idea.
