week 1 and 2
In today’s blog I will be recapping over the first and second choreography lessons of second year.
In the lesson we began by getting into small groups of our households. Miss Evans gave each group a picture to write notes on. We made notes on things we could see in the picture, what we thought the meaning behind the photo could be and any information we already knew about the picture. We also wrote down any questions we had about the picture. We then switched the pictures with other groups until we had all wrote notes on each one. This task became harder as the time went on as other groups had already said a lot of our ideas therefore, we had to dig deep in order to find more things to comment on. We also answered some questions that other groups had wrote down on the picture. After this we discussed as a class each picture and noted down each other’s thoughts and feelings around each one. An example of a picture we used can be seen below. We chose the picture below to create a small group piece as this picture inspired movement. For example , the seesaw could be symbolised my counter balances and balances within the movement.
In the second week we were given the task to bring in a stimulus in our households. The photo which we chose can be seen below. We collectively decided to bring in a photo that we found. It is a hand with very intricate patterns on it which we
thought could aid us to create a lot of unique movement. Similarly, to the first week, we went around each groups stimulus as wrote down our thoughts and feelings and any movement ideas we had. We then chose three descriptive words from the notes we had made on the class’s stimuli. We chose the words contrast, pathways and intertwining. In our household groups we created 4 movements for each word. Then a 12-sided dice was rolled which created the order of movement. Due to using a die being used there were some repeats. The order of the movement went 1,11,6,9,8,9,6,2,10,5,12,7,10,3,4. Once we had seamlessly created the phrase through the use of transitional movements we were told to pick a number 1 through 4. My group chose 3. This was a random way to choose a music piece for our movement phrase. Our music was named Legions (war) by Zoe Keatings. We then performed our piece as a group for the rest of the class. I found this task a useful way to create movement and I plan on using it in the future.

You have included an amazing amount of detail to your blog post, describing each task in detail. Including images really helped me visualize the movement ideas you created from your stimulus as I was able to see the lines and unique curvatures of the hand. During the second lesson, you discussed how the teacher rolled a dice to achieve an order in which we then put together the movement. Would you have preferred to complete this section of the task in another way, such as choosing which movement fit best with each other, or do you think that this was the most effective way of completing chance choreography?
ReplyDeleteThankyou. I believe that this way of creating movement was an effective way for me and my group. I really enjoyed this task and i am almost certain i will use this again in the future.
DeleteThis blog post is extremely clear and you have explained each task really thoroughly. Which of these tasks did you find most inspiring and beneficial for generating movement and how would you like to use the week 2 idea of the element of chance in your future choreographic process?
ReplyDeleteThankyou Daisy. In my opinion the task in the second week was much more effective in making movement for my group. In the future i would use the second task by brain storming ideas from the stimuli , whether that is an image or a piece of music. Then i would carry out the task as i stated in the blog. I found this task very interesting and i am elated to use it in the future .
DeleteI loved reading your blog you have included some really interesting points about the lesson and what tasks you did. How did you find doing the 12-sided dice task and is this something you would use to create movement in your group choreography?
ReplyDeleteI found the twelve sided dice task a very effective and fun way to create movement. This is a task i would definitely use in the creation of my choreography.
DeleteThis is an clear and well structured blog, well done. Did you find the first task a challenge? Was it difficult to come up with movement inspired by a picture? Or was it something that worked well for you and your group?
ReplyDeleteThankyou. I did find the first task a challenge. I found it was easy to lose track of the task and start just putting a step which could easily come next. I think our group did well with the task however i would not use this method of creation in the future.
